During the summer of 2020 we give you the opportunity to start an inward journey instead of travelling abroad. On three occasions this summer we’ll have introduction classes to Ashtanga Yoga for beginners (15/6, 13/7 and 17/8)
The class gives you an introduction to the basics of Ashtanga yoga and is suitable for those who have never tried yoga before, but also to those who have already practiced other types of yoga and who want to learn the special method of Ashtanga. The focus of the class is on becoming acquainted with one’s own breathing, learning to synchronize breath and movement (so-called vinyasa krama) as well as the practice of Sun Salutation A + B and some closing postures from the Ashtanga Yoga sequence. You will also get a brief insight into the background and philosophy of yoga, its health benefits for both body and mind as well as practical advice on how to get started with a regular practice.
All participants are offered to take part in two weeks of Mysore classes immediately after the introduction – WITHOUT EXTRA COST. Mysore class is the way Ashtanga yoga traditionally is practiced. Read more about the Mysore classes under class descriptions
The teacher is Isabella Nitschke, Authorized Level II by Sharath Jois in Mysore, India
The class is given in partnership with Medborgarskolan. Pre-registration is required and done through Medborgarskolans website (click the link). We have an age limit of 16 years and participants under 18 need the approval of their guardian.
If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact us by email
Due to the current Covid19 restrictions the shala we will continue to teach both on site and online during the summer months, however with some important changes.
From 1st June, all classes – Mysore and guided – will take place live at the shala AND be simultaneously streamed via Zoom. We will no longer broadcast any classes in our private FB group. This opens up the possibility for practitioners in other cities/countries to join our classes. To practice with us you need a valid montly/seasonal card OR our new online card which can be purchased for 650 SEK/month (see here).
By purchasing the online card you can participate in all regular Mysore classes and guided classes (full or half primary series) for 30 days. You either purchase the card online through Medborgarskolan or by contacting us. NB! Online cards may only be used for online classes whereas monthly/seasonal cards may be used both in the shala and online. Klippkort cannot be used online – these are only valid for use when you come to practice at the shala. To take part in the special summer courses you need to sign up separately and pay extra.
To take part online EVERYONE – whether you have monthly/seasonal cards or online cards will have to inform us of their interest beforehand upon which the teacher will send you a link to the class to log in.
Registration is done as follows :
Mysore (all week) and full primary (Fri / Sun once a month) register at the latest on Saturdays for the coming week (even if you do not attend all days) – email Isabella: info[at]ashtangayogamalmo.se
Since we use zoom, we will see you and be able to give you personalized instruction. Please make sure the following:
- your laptop/tablet video and audio are both set to ‘on’.
- that you are positioned horizontally, not vertically with your mat in the camera view. Also, some of you have the camera too close or high/low so that you aren’t really visible (see graphic below).
- to see the shala click ‘speaker’ view, to see everyone taking part, click ‘gallery’ view.
See you on the yoga mat in the shala or online!
Our regular classes continue to run but due to the Covid19 pandemic we’ve unfortunately had to cancel or postpone extra events such as workshops and guest teacher visits. We are trying to find new dates for late summer and autumn and the goal is to return to full activity and fun events this coming autumn.
One change to the schedule that we’d like to flag is that Mysore class on Thursday evening is replaced by a guided half primary series from 17:15-18:45. Both the Tuesday and Thursday evening class takes place at the shala and is broadcast live via Zoom.
The summer schedule starts on 22 June and runs until 31 August. During the summer, evening classes are cancelled but we run special events/courses a few times a month.
