SUMMER COURSE: Pranayama/breathing practice, 6 sessions

This course gives you an introduction to the relationship between breathing and well-being. You will learn a number of Pranayama/breathing techniques; we start with easier exercises and advance as the weeks go by. The course is mainly aimed at those who already practice yoga regularly and is not suitable for complete beginners (beginners are referred to one of our intro classes).
Pranayama = Prana (life force) + Ayama (extend) means extension of life force. Within yoga philosophy it is explained that the life force is linked to the breath and by taking longer and fewer breaths we can extend our lifespan. Breathing is also an important tool for self-regulation, namely how we react to and manage stress.
How we breathe affects our mental well-being and vice versa. By becoming more aware and getting to know our breath, we can better understand this connection. With the use of special techniques we can learn to master our breathing and thus also affect our mental health in a positive direction.
The course (6 sessions over the summer of 2020) runs every second Sunday starting on 14/6 at 11.30 am immediately after the Mysore class (Pranayama should be done about 20-30 minutes after your asana practice and one should avoid eating or drinking in between). Participants can choose to attend on-site in the shala or online via Zoom (link to the class is shared by the teacher).
