TEMPORARY SCHEDULE CHANGES MAY-JUNE 2020

Our regular schedule continues to run but due to the Covid19 pandemic we’ve unfortunately had to cancel or postpone extra events such as workshops and guest teacher visits. We are trying to find new dates for late summer and autumn and the goal is to return to full activity and fun events this coming autumn.

One change to the schedule that we’d like to flag is that Mysore class on Thursday evening is replaced by a guided half primary series from 17:15-18:45. Both the Tuesday and Thursday evening class takes place at the shala and is broadcast live in our internal Facebook group

We’d also like to remind you that in May and June there are some public holidays and therefore certain class times change:

FRIDAY 1 MAY  – Mysore class cancelled. Charity event 108 sun salutations at 8.30 am in support of the Purple Valley Emergency Response Fund . The class is held at the shala AND is live broadcast on our Facebook page

SUNDAY 3 MAY  – Full guided Primary series at 9:00am followed by Tea & talk (in the shala and live on Facebook / Zoom)

THURSDAY 7 MAY  – Full Moon – All classes cancelled

FRIDAY 15 MAY – Full guided Primary series at 06:30am

THURSDAY 21 MAY  – ASCENSION – Morning Mysore 9-11:30am, evening class cancelled

FRIDAY 22 MAY – new moon – all classes cancelled

FRIDAY 5JUNE  – Full Moon – All classes cancelled

SUNDAY 7 JUNE – Full guided Primary series at 9:00am  followed by Tea & talk (in the shala and live on Facebook / Zoom)

FRIDAY 19 JUNE – MIDSUMMER’S EVE – closed

SUNDAY 21 JUNE – new moon – all classes cancelled

FRIDAY 26 JUNE – Full guided Primary series at 6:30am

The summer schedule starts on 22/6 until 21/8. During the summer, evening classes are cancelled.

EXTENDED SCHEDULE & more guided classes

This spring we extend our morning opening hours to give late workers or late sleepers a chance to practice too. As from 15th January our existing students may come for (unassisted) self-practice from 8.45-10.30. It is of course also possible to come and start  practicing during the Mysore class and finish during the hours of self-practice.  Self-practice means that you do your asana practice but that there is no-one to assist or guide you.  Please note that the teacher stops teaching at 8.45 and after this there will be no adjustments. Please also respect that you have to be showered and finished by the latest at 10.30 as there are classes after or the cleaner needs access to the room (N.B. self-practice is only available when Isabella is teaching).  Click here to see the full spring schedule

In 2020 we also add more guided classes to the schedule. We’ll do full guided Primary Series class twice a month; once on Fridays and once on Sundays. Take note of all the dates so that you’re not late for class (see picture below or the schedule page – link above). On Fridays you may come already at 6am to meditate or do breathing practice before class; on Sundays we have Tea&Talk after class.

On Tuesday evenings Miho teaches a weekly guided half Primary series at 17.15-18.45. This class suits anyone who wants more guidance of half the series until Navasana. It’s perfect if you’ve just completed a beginners course and/or if you want a better understanding of the correct vinyasa.

NEWSLETTER Nov/Dec 2019

Warm greetings from a sunny Goa where I spend a few extra days after the Purple Valley retreat. It’s kind of a holiday combined with further education as I take the opportunity to attend some workshops with experienced teachers on site. All in order to improve my teaching skills and to get some new energy. I hope you had a great time with Sara and Hanna while they’ve covered classes and I look forward to seeing you all again soon. In this newsletter you find information about upcoming events in December and January as well as the Christmas and New Year’s schedule.

The retreat at Purple Valley was very successful but it would have been even lovlier if more of you had joined. Then the chance of returning there at some point in the future would have increased. When I arrived in Goa I was welcomed by the worst cyclone since many years and the rain was pouring down incessably for four whole days. But just as the guests arrived for the retreat, the clouds scattered. Then we had days filled with sun, yoga and really amazing food. I’ll tell you more on Sunday November 24 when I’m back in Malmö and teach the guided Primary series class followed by tea and talk.

CHARITY CLASS – December marks the month of generosity and of giving back and as we’ve done in previous years we organize a charity class to raise funds for the organization V-Care in Mysore. At the full moon on Thursday 12/12 at 5.30 pm, we do 108 sun salutations together (or how many salutations you can/want to do). The class is free of charge but instead you make a donation that goes directly to V-Care. Read more here and please register in advance.

POTLUCK/CHRISTMAS BRUNCH – our annual, very popular vegan potluck party returns on Sunday 15/12 after guided Primary series class. The brunch is held at the shala from 11-13.00. Bring a festive mood and a vegan/vegetarian contribution to the table and a friend or your family. Please let us know in advance how many of you are coming. You can find more info about the event on this page.

THE AUTUMN SCHEDULE continues until 23/12 and thereafter we’ll have special opening hours between Christmas Eve 24/12 and 6/1. You find the entire Christmas and New Year schedule here

NEW YEAR mini RETREAT– Isabella teaches a mini-retreat with the theme “A fresh start” at Yoga by the Sea in Mölle on January 2-5. All levels of practitioners are welcome. Accommodation and board are not included in the price but can be arranged separately. The last day for registration is mid-December – read more here

GUEST TEACHER – Jens Bache from Astanga Yoga Copenhagen returns to Malmö to teach a guided Primary series class on 5/1. After class, he gives a lecture on his research on an important text about the Ashtanga Yoga found in Mysore, India. Read more about Jens, the class and the lecture here.

THE SPRING’S SCHEDULE starts on 7/1-2020. It will be published online in due time and sent to you with the next newsletter just before the end of the year. Information about new beginners courses is already available online on our Beginners page and our first beginners course starts on 13 January (more info here) If you know someone who wants to fulfill their New Year’s resolution to start a yoga practice then feel free to share the information with them!

That’s all for now. Remember that we are on social media Instagram or Facebook where you can find pictures from Purple Valley and Goa and stay updated on what is happening in the shala between newsletters. On Facebook we also have a closed group Ashtanga Yoga Malmö (and Lund) practitioner’s group for everyone who practices with us regularly where you can ask questions, organize social events and other fun stuff.

See you on the yoga mat!

Isabella
